Founder and music director of Tsenov Chamber Ensemble, Guerguan Tsenov has established himself as a conductor with a unique mission. With his ensemble, Mr. Tsenov has presented a number of American premiers of masterpieces by Bulgarian composers who’s music has been oppressed for decades by the authoritarian regime. In his native Bulgaria, Mr. Tsenov is a regular guest conductor with the three major orchestras of the country - Sofia Philharmonic, Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra and New Symphony Orchestra. In 2017 and 2018 Mr. Tsenov gave the world premiers of Symphonies Nos. 6 and 7 by legendary composer Vassil Kazandjiev (as both symphonies are dedicated to Mr. Tsenov) and in March 2020 he will give the world premiere of Kazandjiev’s last Symphony No. 8 with the New Symphony Orchestra.
Prior to his work with the TCE, Mr. Tsenov has served as the principal conductor of the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra in New York and also as the resident conductor of the New York University Symphony Orchestra.
Guerguan Tsenov is a recipient of the Award of the International Academy of Arts, the Award of the Open Cosiety Foundation and the Bruno Walter Memorial Foundation full scholarship as a student at the famous Juilliard School in New York.
